Acquaintance with varieties of the pluricentric English language is a need for the current intercultural communication
The paper substantiates developing the students’ competence to understand the so-called non-native users of English, no less than learning standardized speech of British and American speakers that makes the model of foreign language education at our schools. This makes up a shift from teaching English as a Foreign Language underpinned by the British or American cultures to teaching English as an International Language that embraces diverse varieties of the pluricentric language. This shift is motivated by the global spread of the language that has become an international lingua franca which is in contact with local languages and cultures, by the domination in number of users of English for whom it is a non-native language as compared with native English communicators, and even by the specifics of today’s geopolitical situation. Teaching varieties of English, which are most necessary for future communication, implies receptive skills for understanding phonetic and other distinctive features, as well as knowing the basic tenets of the World Englishes paradigm in order to understand the processes, aims and goals of learning, and familiarizing with the cultures of the varieties under study.

Ethical Considerations of Utilizing AI-Driven Tools in EFL Education
The talk examines the current state of policy for the use of artificial intelligence in AI-Driven tools designed for teaching foreign languages. It defines the main postulates of the national strategy for the development of artificial intelligence in the Russian Federation based on a human-oriented approach, comparable with the educational goals and objectives of creating a trusted environment. Asserting the importance of the advanced development of modern technologies, the report presents potential risks of using AI systems related to data security, algorithm bias, errors, abuse and lack of live contact. The experience of the National Research Tomsk State University in using AI in the educational process is specified. Ethical dilemmas and basic principles of using such tools in the development of educational materials are presented, when AI acts as an important tool that opens up broad prospects for the development of education in terms of automating routine tasks, developing individual educational trajectories and continuous learning.

Negotiation skills and conflict management in ELT
EFL classrooms in Uzbekistan are becoming culturally rich and intensely competitive. The possibilities for conflict are greater in such environments, where cultural and language differences can lead to misunderstandings and conflicts stemming from differing expectations and communication styles. EFL instructors must have sufficient competencies to lead in such situations. Many researchers in the field of EFL tend to concentrate primarily on language instruction, often neglecting the crucial need to foster effective negotiation and conflict management skills. To manage conflicts effectively teachers must understand the basics of negotiation theory and effective communications. This study will reflect on three complementary leadership competencies - conflict management, negotiation, and effective communication, which enhance the ability of EFL teachers to be more effective not only in classroom instruction, but in other aspects of communication.

Ways to Stop Your Students from Learning
What do teachers do that actually prevent their students from learning? In this brief
introduction to Anti-Pedagogy 101, we will look at a number of common classroom
practices and the evidence that shows how effective they are in preventing learning
from taking place. The presenter will draw on findings from the field of Learning
Science to illustrate the point that if we know what blocks learning, we are on our way
to understanding how to support and nurture our students as they study.

(De)colonial temporalities in qualitative applied linguistics research: Care and sustainability in knowledge production in the Global South(s)
As coloniality in applied linguistics/TESOL continues to reinvent itself, scholars in different bi/multilingual contexts have also become committed to exploring various decolonial approaches within their research cultures, practices and habits (e.g., Barnawi & R’boul, 2024; Castañeda-Peña, Gamboa & Kramsch, 2024). Amidst these moral and ethical efforts, time and temporality, as topics of critical inquiry, receive less attention, albeit they play a fundamental role in shaping our ways of doing and decolonizing applied linguistics research (e.g., research processes, methods, designs, and implementation).
In this talk, drawing on sociology of time, which views that the constructs of time and temporality are defined differently across various cultures and societies (Adam, 1994), I argue that some research discourses in applied linguistics are created and reproduced according to colonial, capitalist and bourgeois regimes of knowledge and time. These regimes of knowledge
and time are rooted in progressive teleology and linear narratives, thereby racializing and devaluing diverse understandings of time and temporality as well as benefiting specific discourse communities and geopolitical positionings. Through what I term pluri-temporal method in doing and decolonizing in qualitative applied linguistics research, (i) I attempt to disrupt notions of time and temporality in conventional language learning and teaching research at epistemological, theoretical and methodological levels (i.e., western-scientific-temporal inquiry), and (ii) propose a culture of
time-critical and reflexive language education research. By way of illustration, I demonstrate how Halaqa may function as an alternative temporal method in doing and decolonizing qualitative applied linguistics research otherwise.
